Introduction to Dr Christiaan Victor

Dr Christiaan Victor earned his BChD from the University of Pretoria in 2001, including an exchange program at the University of Nijmegen, Netherlands. Since 2002, he has practiced full-time at his private clinic in Pretoria, specializing in endodontics, implant treatments, and prosthetic rehabilitation.

His journey in implant dentistry began in 2004, attending numerous local and international courses. He completed a two-year certificate with Prof André van Zyl (2013), an advanced one-year course (2015), and a Postgraduate Diploma in Implantology (cum laude, 2016). His passion for endodontology grew through mentorship under Prof Peet van der Vyver, leading to a Postgraduate Diploma in Endodontology (cum laude, 2017) and an MSc in Endodontics (distinction, 2020). Dr Victor is an active member of Study Group 1, SAAAD, SADA, the Endodontic Society of SA, and serves as a Key Opinion Leader for Henry Schein South Africa.

Trauma &

Resorption

Dental practitioners frequently encounter complex endodontic cases involving resorption, often linked to past trauma. In many instances, treatment is required long after the initial incident.

This course explores best practices for managing trauma in primary and permanent dentition while minimising long-term complications like resorption. Participants will engage in case studies, discussions, and a hands-on session focusing on modern treatment protocols. The hands-on session will feature Swiss-manufactured FKG adaptive 3D endodontic files, demonstrating their effectiveness in trauma-related cases. Additionally, delegates will receive training on the latest bioceramic materials (calcium silicates), which have revolutionized resorption treatment. Join us for an insightful learning experience combining theory, case-based discussions, and practical application.

COURSE OVERVIEW
Dental Trauma
This session covers treatment guidelines for dental trauma, including tooth fractures, splinting techniques, tooth displacement, dentoalveolar fractures, and long-term consequences. Prevention strategies, such as mouthguards, will also be discussed.

Dental Resorption
This lecture focuses on diagnosing and managing tooth resorption, exploring different classification systems (Andreasen & Lindskog), causes, and treatment approaches. Special attention will be given to external cervical resorption, including its etiology, classification, and treatment options

Hands-On Session & Case Discussions
This session includes practical training with FKG XP-endo files and finishers, focusing on managing complex cases with next-generation bioceramic materials. Participants
will also receive an overview of the FKG endodontic file systems and their features. The session will conclude with interactive case discussions for deeper clinical insights.

Endodontic
Complications
& Re-Treatments

Endodontic treatments can be challenging, often leading to complications such as file fractures, canal
preparation issues (ledges, perforations, blockages), and post-operative pain or infection. When a root canal
fails, practitioners must assess re-treatment options and prognosis.

This session will cover common endodontic complications, management strategies, and a practical approach to re- treatment, followed by case discussions and hands-on training. The hands-on session will feature Swiss-manufactured FKG adaptive 3D endodontic files, demonstrating their role in managing complex cases. Delegates will also train with FKG bioceramic putty (calcium silicates) for effective re-treatment, including the removal of separated files.

Managing Endodontic File Fractures
This session explores the risk factors for file fractures and strategies to minimize them, including file design, single-use instrumentation, operator technique, and canal anatomy.Key topics include:
• Managing patient communication and legal considerations, emphasizing informed consent.
• Treatment decision-making after a file fracture.
• Techniques for file retrieval, including ultrasonics, loop systems, bypass methods, and magnification.

Endodontic Complications & Re-Treatments
This masterclass provides a practical approach to managing and preventing complex endodontic issues, including infected or damaged root canals.
Key topics include:
• Managing large or recurring peri-apical infections, inflammatory resorption, and open apices.
• Handling root canal preparation errors, such as perforations, transportation, zipping, and ledging.
• Navigating blocked, calcified, or challenging canal anatomy (S-shaped, C-shaped, wide, or ribbon-shaped canals).
• Re-treating previously obturated canals, including prognosis assessment, vertical root fracture diagnosis, and treatment planning.
• Step-by-step re-treatment techniques and the importance of informed consent.

Hands-On Session & Case Discussions
This session includes practical training with FKG XP-endo files, Race EVO, and FKG finishers for managing complex root canal anatomy using advanced bioceramic materials.

Key activities:
• Re-treatment techniques with XP-endo Rise for efficient gutta-percha removal.
• File retrieval training using a ZUMAX loop system on plastic models.
• Overview of the FKG endodontic file system and its features.
• Interactive case discussions, including before-and-after

cases using FKG TotalFill Bioceramic Sealer after re-preparation with XP-endo Rise and FKG Finish.
