Why this hits the mark

This is one of the most relevant global conversations in endodontics right now. Practitioners are torn between preserving dentine (MIE) and achieving adequate cleaning. Position FKG’s controlled-memory instruments + bioceramic sealers/putty as the ideal solution for balancing those two goals

Dr Christiaan Victor earned his BChD from the University of Pretoria in 2001, including an exchange program at the University of Nijmegen, Netherlands. Since 2002, he has practiced full-time at his private clinic in Pretoria, specializing in endodontics, implant treatments, and prosthetic rehabilitation.

His journey in implant dentistry began in 2004, attending numerous local and international courses. He completed a two-year certificate with Prof André van Zyl (2013), an advanced one-year course (2015), and a Postgraduate Diploma in Implantology (cum laude, 2016).

His passion for endodontology grew through mentorship under Prof Peet van der Vyver, leading to a Postgraduate Diploma in Endodontology (cum laude, 2017) and an MSc in Endodontics (distinction, 2020).

Dr Victor is an active member of Study Group 1, SAAAD, SADA, the Endodontic Society of SA, and serves as a Key Opinion Leader for Henry Schein South Africa.

Session 1 (90 Min)

The Mie Paradox—Can We "Go Smaller" And Still Clean?

Content
  • The evidence behind minimally invasive access cavities & narrower shaping goals
  • The real risks: missed anatomy, irrigant penetration challenges
  • How rotary/reciprocating CM alloy instruments (e.g., FKG RACE EVO, XP-Endo Shaper/Finisher if you include them) overcome limitations
  • Anatomy review: where small shapes fail & when they succeed

  • Case discussions that highlight success + failure of MIE

Key Takeaway Message
We don’t have to choose between strength and disinfection—we can engineer both.
Session 2 (90 Min)

The Bioceramic Advantage—Rethinking Shaping & Obturation Philosophy

Content
  • How bioceramics change the shaping objective (less need for large taper for sealer flow)
  • Single-cone philosophy vs warm technique: myths vs current evidence
  • Using FKG bioceramic sealer + putty for internal resorption, perforations & apexification
  • Real-world decision tree:
  • When is minimally invasive + bioceramic ideal?
  • When does the case require a more traditional approach?
Case Series Focus
  • MIE with curved canals
  • Re-treatment cases using bioceramic putty as repair material
  • Apical management cases (apex widening vs natural constriction)
Key Positioning
Bioceramics are not just sealers—they're a restorative philosophy inside the root.
Hands-On (90 Min)

"Shape Less, Seal Smarter" Practical Session

Hands-on Stations
  1. Modern Conservative Access (use printed teeth or acrylic blocks)
  2. Canal Shaping Using FKG Files (focus on glide path > shaping > finishing)
  3. Bioceramic Obturation System (single cone hydraulic technique + putty use)
  4. Repair Workshop (mock perforation + open apex repair using bioceramic putty)
Outcome
Participants leave with a repeatable clinical protocol + confidence with the materials.
